TROI: Tracking health risks in the Indian Ocean with a One Health approach

The TROI project is a research programme structuring the research and teaching system in the One Health Partnership - OI. It aims to better control health risks in the Indian Ocean region through a ‘One Health’ approach.

Objectives

  • Strengthening the surveillance of existing diseases and increasing the vigilance on exotic diseases which are potentially a risk for the Indian Ocean zone.
  • Developing dispersion models for pathogens and vectors to anticipate epidemics and guide surveillance.
  • Evaluating the resistance level of bacteria to antibiotics and understanding the reasons for its evolution.
  • Fuelling the finalised control strategies for diseases of interest in Reunion and the Indian Ocean, taking into account their economic and social impacts.
  • Coordinating activities and the transfer of skills between partners.

Description

The TROI project is organised around four actions:

1. SURVEILLANCE: Surveillance of infectious diseases through a pooled approach, consolidating regional networks and observatories: moving towards new approaches to surveillance.

2. BETTER UNDERSTANDING FOR BETTER ANTICIPATION: The vulnerability of Indian Ocean islands to infectious diseases; the phenomenon of antibiotic resistance.

3. CLEAR-SIGHTED CONTROL: Control strategies: economic and social impact of control actions.

4. COORDINATING AND TRANSFERRING ACTIVITIES AND COMPETENCIES of the members and partners of the research and teaching system in the One Health Partnership - OI.
