CIRAD is part of a new project on PPR in Africa: Inception workshop for the project ECO-PPR

CIRAD is participating in a new project on the study of PPR and its social-economic effects in West and East Africa. First meetings in Ouagadougou were held from 25 to 27 June 2019.

Peste des petits ruminants (PPR)

PPR remains one of the factors limiting the development of the African continent. In 2015 the Strategy for the eradication of this disease  proposed by FAO and OIE was approved by 200 countries. To support global efforts, gaps in existing research need to be identified and addressed. The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development and The European Commission (IFAD-EC), is implementing a research project to support ongoing efforts to control and eradicate PPR on a global scale.

The ECO-PPR project

Will take place in 3 countries of East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania) and West Africa (Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso) with the objective of providing research support for the control and the eradication of the disease. The project relies on the collaboration of experts in epidemiology, virology, sociology, economics and modeling to gain a global vision of the causes and effects of the disease. CIRAD is part of the Consortium with a role of coordinating activities in West Africa and also participating in the activities of quantitative and participatory modeling, molecular epidemiology and risk mapping.

A first meeting between the partners
